SOS IRB KIT AID SHORTLISTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD !

5th June 2009

SOS is delighted to advise that SOS IRB Kit Aid has been included in a shortlist of 3 in the Environmental Category of the prestigious Beyond Sports Awards. SOS IRB Kit Aid was shortlisted amongst 32 finalists from an original entry of 265 world wide projects from 80 countries and we are in the final three for our category. We could have entered under at least two other categories but we are very keen to push the environmental green recycling benefits of SOS IRB Kit Aid in 2009 to open new funding doors for us and to increase the amount of kit we collect from schools and clubs.Pictured are pupils from  a school from the Gloucester area presenting their ideas for the promotion of SOS Green at their school at Gloucester Rugby late last year.
The shortlisted finalists have been invited to attend the Beyond Sports Summit in London from July 7-9 where our project will be judged amongst two other competing environmental projects by distinguished panellists including Bishop Desmond Tutu, Sir Richard Branson, Prince Faisal , Boris Johnson,Wilfred Lemke - United Nations Special Adviser and Tony Blair who will be chairing the judging panel. Please see www. beyondsports.org for more detail.
Many of the projects are football related but SOS IRB Kit Aid is one of only two rugby projects(the other is Project Alcatraz-Venezuela).The SOS IRB Kit Aid model, used for rugby, would convert so easily into other sports and other continents around the world. SOS IRB Kit Aid's shortlisting for this prestigious award gives us the opportunity to win £10,000 of additional funding to expand our "SOS Green" schools recycling project still further and eat into our growing waiting list of 58 emerging rugby countries.
This shortlisting for SOS IRB Kit Aid comes shortly after our success in winning the prestigious inaugural "Rugby Expo" Corporate Social Responsibilty Award in late 2008. We are determined to win this award for the benefit of emerging rugby nations and our SOS Green schools recycling project(and the funding !). We  look forward to a busy few weeks preparing for the final panel deliberations.
This goes alongside a very busy time for SOS IRB Kit Aid with our involvement in the Lions Community Programme, backed by HSBC, where we are collecting rugby kit from 40 rugby schools in the UK and Ireland and this kit will be handed out to 40 emerging rugby schools in South Africa by Lions and South African Test players during the Lions Tour this summer.
